Mastering the Art of the Violin: Intermediate Skills to Focus On

Aaron Criswell

Updated: Feb 15, 2024

As an intermediate violinist, you're likely comfortable with the basics and ready to explore more challenging techniques. Here are a few areas you should focus on:

Vibrato: A beautiful vibrato can add emotion to your music. It's a complex skill that takes time to learn, but the effort is well worth it.

Shifting Positions: Moving your hand up and down the fingerboard expands the range of notes you can play and allows you to perform more complex pieces.

Advanced Bowing Techniques: Techniques such as spiccato, sautillé, and ricochet add character to your music and are essential for various musical styles.

Musicality: At this stage, it's not just about playing the notes. It's about interpreting the music and expressing emotion through your playing.

Becky, Parent of Online Student

"We highly recommend Mr. Jose Berrones as a violin instructor. He has been wonderful working with our 9-year-old daughter for the past two years. Not only is he experienced, but his style and adaptation to our daughter's unique needs has been exceptional. It is evident that he is passionate and committed to his work!

Mr. Berrones has been flexible to also meet instruction needs with in-person and virtual flexibility as well as integration of theory instruction. Our only regret is not finding him sooner!" - Becky
